Wizarding World

Strategic Service Design for Global Entertainment Franchise

Wizarding World represents a complex business ecosystem—combining publishing, e-commerce, entertainment, and news under a joint venture between Warner Bros and Pottermore, J.K. Rowling's IP management company. In 2018, I led the UX strategy for their subscription service launch, translating franchise value into sustainable digital revenue streams through tiered membership experiences.

Cross-Functional Strategy & Subscription Model Design
My role encompassed both strategic service design and tactical interface development—defining subscription tier benefits that would resonate with diverse fan segments while designing mobile app experiences that delivered on those promises. This required balancing business monetization goals with authentic fan engagement, ensuring subscription value felt genuine rather than exploitative.

Complex Stakeholder Navigation
Working within a joint venture structure meant coordinating across multiple corporate entities with different priorities: Warner Bros' entertainment industry perspective, Pottermore's fan community focus, and J.K. Rowling's creative vision. Each stakeholder brought distinct requirements for how the Harry Potter universe should be represented and monetized through digital experiences.

Service Design & Digital Product Innovation
The project demanded deep understanding of fandom psychology and subscription service mechanics. We created exclusive digital experiences—including interactive e-books with custom animations—that justified premium pricing while maintaining the magical quality fans expected from the Harry Potter universe.

My role:

  • Lead UX strategy and UX research for the membership experience

  • Coordinate Interaction Designers, Visual Designers, Motion Designers, UX Researchers
