Chromecast
Reinventing Beloved Products Through Strategic Design Evolution
Chromecast achieved mainstream adoption as Google's first successful consumer hardware, transforming millions of TVs through simple, affordable streaming. Reinventing such a beloved product required balancing user expectations with entirely new capabilities—adding a remote control and user interface while preserving the magic that made the original special.
Strategic Product Transformation
Led the design strategy that evolved Chromecast from a simple casting device to a comprehensive smart TV platform. This involved integrating Google Assistant for voice control and partnering with Android TV to introduce Google TV's personalized content discovery—reflecting how people actually consume streaming content across multiple services.
Global Design Implementation
Coordinated design implementation across 18 countries, working with internationalization teams to adapt experiences for diverse markets while maintaining consistency. Collaborated directly with industrial design and engineering teams on hardware quality control in manufacturing.
“The best streaming device. Our new favorite thanks to a redesigned interface that better reflects how people watch video in 2020, and it feels completely modern compared with the competition.”
